Grand opening of new Skate Park and Pump Track at Haulover Beach Park, August 7, 2018
On Tuesday, August 7, 2018, the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department and Miami-Dade County District 4 Commissioner Sally A. Heyman will officially open a new 7,500 square foot hybrid skate park and pump track at Haulover Beach Park, 10801 Collins Ave., Miami. The public is invited to join them for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.
The new fee-free skate park and pump track are located adjacent to the park’s dog park parking area. It combines a separate skate plaza and bicycle pump track, providing a place for people of all ages to enjoy free-wheeling fun on their skateboards or bikes.
Everyone is encouraged to bring along their skateboards and bicycles, and have some fun! Helmets are required. For those attending the ribbon-cutting, who may not own a skateboard, Commissioner Heyman’s office is donating new skateboards for the occasion. The free skateboards will be available, while supplies last.
“I’m excited and pleased to see an idea be brought to reality with great partners and community collaboration,“ said Commissioner Heyman. “Adding skateboard and bicycle activity to this great park will attract more people to come and enjoy our park.”
“This new state-of–the-art skate park and pump track gives skateboarders and bike riders an awesome space to hone their skills, surrounded by the beauty and amenities of our world-renowned Haulover Beach Park and Marina,” said Maria I. Nardi, Miami-Dade Parks Director.
This skate park and pump track were developed and funded in collaboration with the following municipalities: Sunny Isles Beach, Bal Harbour, Bay Harbor Islands, Miami Beach and Surfside.
The new Velosolutions hybrid skatepark and pumptrack at Haulover Park (10800 Collins Avenue) is finally open!
Five communities joined together to fund and build the pump track and skate park at Haulover Park. Bal Harbour, Surfside, Miami Beach, Bay Harbor Islands, and Sunny Isles teamed up to bring this project to fruition. The facility was designed and built by Velosolutions with an estimated cost of $265,000, the land was provided by Miami-Dade County.
The pump track promotes an active lifestyle for kids and adults alike. We believe Haulover Park was a great choice of location due to it's easy accessibility to nearby communities in Northeast Miami-Dade, plus it's right next to the beach so you can cool off after a session.
The pump track and skate park is FREE for everyone to enjoy. It's typically very busy on weekend afternoons when the sun is beginning to go down. Keep in mind if you arrive by motor-vehicle you are required to pay for parking.
Have fun out there!
So what is a pump track?
A pump track is designed for all things on wheels. From mountain bikes to bmx’s and skateboards a pump track is a playground for all wheels. By combining rolling jumps with turns they are accessible for all. Teaching the basic skills of carrying momentum, balance and speed by using your arms and legs to pump your bike/board/scooter around the track. As you get better the tracks are designed to provide more challenges for you with no changes to the construction. A feature that a 5 year old can roll through can be used as a gap jump for a professional. - Velosolutions
