March is Florida Bike Month, check out all the local cycling activities taking place in the events calendar. Floridians celebrate bike month two months ahead of the rest of the nation before the really hot and humid weather kicks in, while the rest of the country has recognized May as National Bike Month since 1956.
Personally, I'd rather celebrate Bike Month in May. I believe "Bike To Work Day" has never really taken off in Florida due to it not being in sync with the rest of the nation. I would really like to do a Car vs. Bus vs. Bike Commuter Race during 8am rush hour in Miami. If anyone is up for the challenge which would take place in May, leave a comment. I'll state the obvious by saying I will not be the one driving or taking public transit in this challenge.
Below are some event highlights for March:
FVA Thursday Night Track Racing Series, Loose Cannons, Miami Bike Hunt, Tour de Cure, 2011 Rosewood Series, Sixtwo Sundays, Get In Gear Bike Ride, La Noche Miami Criterium Race, Bicycle Film Festival, $100,000 BBPA, 3rd Annual Florida Bike Summit, Miami Critical Mass, Tweed Ride II, Core-Cat Alleycat Race, and EBC Snowbird Century.

ReplyDeleteCar vs bike commute:
ReplyDeleteI work less than 2 miles from work, and depending on the day, I'm sure I can beat the person driving if I'm on a bike.
And on some days, I know I could have walked or jogged to work faster than driving.
March or May, here is some info to help get people started: www.biketoworkinfo.org.
