"The Biscayne-Everglades Greenway Bike Festival is back and better than ever! With two routes to choose from, you can enjoy a fun 11-mile loop to Biscayne National Park or tackle the challenging 42-mile ride to Everglades and Biscayne National Parks. So, break out your bike shorts and get ready to get fit, have fun, and explore the outdoors.
Hundreds of bicycle and outdoors enthusiasts will gather at the Homestead-Miami Speedway on the morning of Sunday, March 22, 2015 for the 6th Annual Biscayne-Everglades Greenway Bike Festival. This FREE event has quickly become a staple for bicyclists and nature lovers alike, offering the chance to connect with nature while promoting fitness and bicycle safety. This year’s Festival kicks off with registration at 8am and riders departing at 9am.
The trail, known as the Biscayne-Everglades Greenway, is the vision of City of Homestead Councilwoman Judy Waldman, which seeks to offer a safe and scenic route to the parks without concern for vehicular traffic. The Biscayne-Everglades Greenway is a collaboration among AIA Miami, the Miami-Dade County Parks and Recreation Department, Biscayne and Everglades National Parks, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Office of Greenways and Trails, the City of Homestead, and the NPS Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program, among many others. It is currently one of the top 3 funding priorities in the state and one of the top 20 in the entire country. Miami-Dade County has embraced the Greenway as well, making it the number one focus over the next fifty years.
To preregister for the ride, fill out and return the entry waiver, available here. Don’t delay—the first 200 people to register will receive a FREE bike light! There will be an on-site bike mechanic to assist riders if needed."
