Fakawi Gravel Grinder (85 mi or 25 mi)
Race:
This year we added an 85 mile race wave, with chip timing, medals, trophies, and podium for the top 5 finishers in each category. What to expect? Fakawi route is never disclosed, hence the name. It will be a straight forward course, lots of straight aways, lane closure for the US27 road section, and an escort provided by Florida Highway Patrol. There will be Sag support vehicles following the road portion of the race only. We'll have 4 sag stations stocked with hydration, snacks, and mechanical assistance.
Ride:
Our 25 mile gravel ride is open to riders of all levels, and riders ages 15 & up (unless accompanied by an adult). All finishers will receive custom Fakawi finishers patch.
"The Fakawi was created in 2010, it combines a network of levees, horse trails, and old abandoned farm roads. Creating a unique cycling experience, and a sneak peek into old Florida.
The ride begins at Markham Park, with police escort, mass start, and a controlled 15 mph pace for approximately 5 miles. Once safely off the city road(s), riders are free to go at their own pace. Just follow the arrows, and ride within your limits. The Fakawi is a self-supported ride. There will be sag stations along the way offering mechanical assistance, snacks, drinks, but do NOT depend on them. Be self sufficient, carry tools, food, and plenty of water. The ride concludes back at Markham Park's corporate pavilion, with food, beverages, and music, amd more"
